In thai language rules the vowel โ can not stand alone, therefore the character อ is used as a "carrier" or "onset". Example : โอ้พระเจ้า (oh my god)

spoken vowels are normally and often omitted in writing. in ผลไม้ "o" and "la" are omitted. The sound is phon-la-mai

รร is spoken as "an" in the word ภรรยา, otherwise also as "a". The second ร is also used as first letter in the second syllable : The sound is phan-ra-yaa. And "a" from "ra" is omitted in the writing. Non-written added sounds are called "epenthesis". Omitted "a" and "o" sounds are very common. If end consonant is available like in ลม, the omitted sound is "o".

Different sounds. โ has a long oo sound, อ more like a in "saw" (å). อ är en konsonant, om ett ord börjar med en vokal använder man ofta อ som "bärare", ett skrivet thai ord får ej börja med en vokal. Exempel: อา = aa, อีก = ìik. Utifrån ordets ljud kan man sluta sig till om det skrivs med โ.
